As many will agree, Edinburgh, a city steeped in history and culture, is a splendid place to say "I do." The Scottish capital offers a plethora of charming wedding venues, each with its unique charm and ambience. One such gem is The Rowantree Bar, where we, The Plectrums, had the honour of performing just this past Saturday night, October 28th, 2023.

As a seasoned wedding band in Scotland, we've had the privilege of gracing many spectacular venues in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre, including the renowned Waldorf Astoria, the mysterious underground setting of The Caves, the romantic Mansefield Traquair, the artistic Dovecot Studios, and the elegant Sheraton Grand. However, this week, we wanted to reflect on our recent performance at The Rowantree Bar and dedicate this blog to our unforgettable evening at this splendid venue. With a bit of luck, perhaps our experience may serve as a valuable guide for those considering their own wedding in this charming part of the city.

In any case, before we delve into our performance at The Rowantree, we wanted to use this opportunity to address some common questions we've been hearing from couples lately who are planning their weddings in Edinburgh and throughout Scotland.

Where IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET Married in Edinburgh?

Naturally, Edinburgh offers a multitude of breathtaking wedding venues, and as mentioned, The Rowantree Bar is just one of many worth considering. Nestled in the heart of the city's Old Town, it's a charming choice for an intimate wedding celebration. Its cosy atmosphere and rustic décor set the perfect tone for both a romantic ceremony and a lively reception. With its central location, it's particularly well-suited for smaller gatherings, providing easy access compared to some rural venues.

But aside from The Rowantree, you really are spoiled for choice. There are several other remarkable venues for tying the knot in this incredible city. The Waldorf Astoria, with its luxurious settings and stunning views of Edinburgh Castle, is a top choice for those seeking an opulent experience. Another splendid option for your wedding day in Edinburgh is Mansefield Traquair. This historical gem perfectly suits intimate wedding celebrations. Its timeless charm, rich history, and elegant surroundings make it a unique and unforgettable choice.

Ultimately, though, each venue has its distinct appeal, allowing couples to find the perfect setting that resonates with their vision of the big day. Having performed in numerous venues, we've come to realise that there's no definitive 'Best Place to get married.' What truly matters is early consideration of venues and trusting your instincts. As the saying goes, “When you know, you know!"

The Rowantree accommodates weddings with a daytime capacity of 50 to 70 guests and can host up to 110 guests in the evening.

What Is the Cheapest Way to Get Married in Edinburgh?

While Edinburgh boasts a wide array of perfectly suited wedding venues, not all weddings need to break the bank. For those looking to save on costs, there are always budget-friendly options. The cheapest way to get married in Edinburgh is to opt for smaller, more intimate ceremonies. Venues like The Rowantree Bar, with its cosy setting, can be a cost-effective choice for couples who prefer a smaller guest list without compromising style, ambience or romance.

Additionally, consider weekday weddings, as they often come with lower venue fees and vendor costs. Some couples choose to have a civil ceremony at the local registry office, followed by a reception at a favourite restaurant for instance. This lower-cost approach can help you save on venue fees and focus your resources on the aspects of the wedding that matter most to you. Either way, do what makes you happy and never feel pressured to conform to what others have done. It's your special day, and the most important thing is to enjoy it and celebrate it with the people you love.

The Price of Love: Average Wedding Costs in Scotland

The cost of a wedding can vary significantly depending on various factors, including the location, guest count, and your choices regarding venues and vendors. According to recent statistics, the average cost of a wedding in Scotland can range from £15,000 to £30,000 or more. However, it's essential to remember that these are just averages, and your wedding can be tailored to your budget and preferences.

Wedding expenses typically include venue rental, catering, attire, photography, entertainment (such as a wedding band like The Plectrums), and more. Careful planning and setting a budget that works for you can help you manage your wedding costs effectively.

Sophie and Andrew's Wedding at The Rowantree

Now, let's turn the spotlight back to The Rowantree. First of all, we want to express our deepest gratitude to Sophie and Andrew for selecting The Plectrums to be part of their wedding celebrations along with their fantastic guests. Their wedding was truly a pleasure for us, and when you set it against the backdrop of the mystic and cavernous Rowantree, you create an atmosphere that brings a love story to life."

As a wedding band, we were honoured and humbled to play a part in their day. Sophie and Andrew's wedding at The Rowantree was nothing short of magical, and we add it to a list of fantastic wedding performances as we now push on to celebrate our 10th year together as a band. We continue to cherish each and every performance, and the opportunity to play at such fantastic venues is one of the perks of our job.

When it comes to playing music, we are always on the lookout for venues with exceptional acoustics and layout, and The Rowantree certainly fits the bill. In our opinion, it stands as an ideal choice for live music performances. Its design enhances sound quality, creating an immersive experience for both performers and the audience. This makes it a fantastic option for bands and artists seeking to deliver outstanding live music in a unique and engaging environment.
